Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven, Vermont, USA
Detail of the crypt of Dr. Timothy Clark Smith (1821-1893) Dr. Smith died on Halloween and chose to be interred in a pimped out crypt. His face was positioned beneath a cement tube that led up to the skylight. According to legend, he was terrified of being buried alive & the crypt was equipped with tools (hammer & chisel) & a dead ringer (bell on surface attached with string leading from crypt). The vault has two rooms, one for the doctor & one for his wife. In the past, there were those who claimed to have seen the doctor's face through the skylight. Presently, the skylight is moldy & clouded with condensation. (I couldn't see anything.) |
